Getting Involved

Yvette Lewis Makes Opera Fun at Franklin Academy

Not everyone wants to get involved in the same way. On this page we present different options to encourage others to get involved in our cause. For example:

We have set up several different "get it done" ( GID) groups who help create funding opportunities for the GJCAE.  We use the Festival Park as a site to allow young performers to practice and put on productions.  The site can be for a play, a concert, outdoor events such as an outdoor movie venue, gardening projects with our seniors, etc.  You may want to work with a group such as the VFW Post 8466 which is working to produce a bi-monthly music nite for the local teens.

Other events being planned to help raise funds are the Wake Forest Music Festival, a microbrewery festival, A Taste of Carolina Wine Weekend, Wake Walks - A Race To Savor, Not to Labor, and of
course the always popular, HerbFest.

If you would like to know what is going on, how to get involved then either email us or sign below to receive our latest updates via our newsletter.

It only seems appropriate to us that a monument of significance mark the final resting place of a young man whose life was of  such significance to us.

This monument is 15” square at its base, to signify his 15 years on this earth. It is cut from black granite, mined from Africa. As it rises up, this strong and graceful sculpture takes an unexpected twist on it way toward heaven, much like Graham’s life.  Graham is buried only 2 blocks from Downtown in the public cemetery.

We would like to thank some special people for helping us make this monument possible, Graham’s grandparents: Roy and Dorothy Gonnella, Graham’s godfather: Chris Roan; and our very dear friends: Jim and Pat Pierce.   Memorial flowers are maintained by the students of Franklin Academy, the Cooper family, the Lopez family led by Traci and Gabby Lopez, Bill and Chris Leahey.
